Lets cheer up Stacey Slater

Posted on 02. Jun, 2009 by Rob Watson in Women

It’s been a hell of a year for Stacey Slater.

Come to think of it, so far she’s had one hell of a life! And it doesn’t look like things are going to improve any time soon.

31zkfjab2fl_sl500_aa180_If someone needed cheering up, that would have to be Stacey Slater.

It’s not going to be easy, but i think a well chosen gift might just do it.

But it’s gotta be good, something personal to her, something to let her know someone cares, something that would make her want to move on with her life.

So here’s a few facts about Stacey:

  • She was born on 8th November 1988
  • She works on the local market, selling clothes
  • She loves fashion
  • She enjoys going out to clubs
  • She’s a sassy, streetwise girl

So how about these:

51ej700clnl_sl500_aa280_GHD Leopard Print Hair Straighteners

2nd only to a diamond, hair straighteners are a girls best friend.

We already know that Stacey makes an effort with her appearance, so a pair of straighteners are sure to go down a treat.

What’s more, check out the leopard print bag these beauties come in. Sure to fire up the animal in this strumpet!

And if that wasn’t enough, they’re a limited edition. Could a hair styling item be any more desirable?

4126c5hqpgl_sl500_aa240_The Little Black Book of Style

Lets be honest, when it comes to style, nobody gets it right without help.

So that’s where this book steps in, as written by the fashion director from Elle magazine

Stacey clearly loves clothes, but does she always know exactly what to wear?

This book tells you what clothes work together and shows readers how to go about creating their own sense of style.

It’s got some quality reviews on Amazon, so i’m guessing Stacey would love it.

308895200A Trip to a Nail Bar

I’ve been told that a woman’s happiness is directly proportional to the quality of her nails!

Maybe that’s a little hard to believe, but there’s no doubt that looking down on a fine set of manicured nails makes a woman feel good.

Obviously, as a man i don’t proclaim to understand the complexities of such things, but the evidence is overwhelming. So far be it for me to argue!

Since Stacey clearly needs a boost to her self esteem, i reckon a top manicure would be perfect.

There’s plenty of nail bars in the UK, so there’s no need to send her to Tania’s. Phew, that would be a mistake!

photo-treatment-massageSpa Treatment

Having to spend every day outside, on her feet, come rain or shine is going to take a toll on Stacey

So how about a serious, pampering spa session. To ease her mind, body and soul!

I think a day relaxing in exotic treatments, with the helping hands of a professional masseuse, will go down very nicely.

And relax.

s000m4010800t0Louis Vuitton Leather Waist Bag

How about this for a slice of market stall chic!

Forget about routing through some plain canvas bum bag for change.

Stacey will be upping the designer stakes with this beauty from the worlds no1 bag brand, Luis Vuitton.

Sure, if may be worth more than the money that goes in it, but our Stacey deserves the best.

So what do you think Stacey would like the most? And do you have any other ideas? Tell me here.

I think she would like the GHD hair straighteners. My missus has some and loves them.

Not sure about the Elle book of style for Stace. She’s more Hello! that Elle.

Blatant advertising trying to masquerade as a blog. Shameful.

(Rob’s comment – I’ve since removed the affiliate links from this post. Read on to find out why)

    Hi Nico

With the GiftAssist blog it’s my intention to help people give better gifts by showing how an understanding of the person you are buying for will lead you to find the right gift for them.

I spend time researching the individual i’m writing about, looking for personality traits, or things that they do in their career that will help me find a gift that will best suit them.

I then go digging around the internet, searching Google and Amazon (whom i have an affiliate program with) looking for products that match my keywords.

I then present my findings within each blog post.

I genuinely believe the GiftAssist blog has value.

Now, considering the time and effort i put into this, is it your honest opinion i shouldn’t be trying to generate income from this site? Or is there something i’m missing here?

Yes, it is my opinion that you shouldn’t be doing this. If you want to advertise then advertise. If you want to blog then blog. I also have a blog, I spend time researching it. I make no money from it. I also have a business, I advertise it. The two do not overlap. I have no problem with you making money, I have a problem with you pretending to have a nice friendly blog when in fact you have a giant advert. If you can not see the moral issue I am afraid it is not me that has a problem, it is you. With the GiftAssist blog it is not your intention to help people give better gifts, it is your intention to make profit. There is something distinctly distasteful about your behaviour. I see you even went on an Eastenders fan forum, in the guise of an Eastenders fan, posting a comment asking people to check your advert (sorry, I mean blog). You really don’t see anything wrong with pretending to be something you are not, in order to generate profit?

I’ve contemplated this issue of trying to generate income from my recommendations.

My initial thought was i would use affiliate links for all of the products.

I then backed down from that idea when i realised my posts would be much better if i recommended a range of products from different sites.

I presume you noticed that i only have affiliate links on 2 of the 5 products i recommend?

I genuinely felt that so long as i was giving good advice no one would mind my attempt to earn commission.

Your passionate criticism does comes as a surprise to me.

You are correct, i did comment on a Eastenders forum to get people to look at this post. (http://www.eastendersblog.com/is-stacey-slater-on-the-verge-of-a-mental-breakdown/)

I don’t claim to be an expert on Eastenders, and i genuinely wanted some feedback to find out if i my article was correct.

I’ve just re-read my comment and i believe i was up-front about my intentions.

I don’t agree with your comment about being “in the guise of an Eastenders fan”. It is my interest in the program that lead me to write my post in the first place.

I want to get your position clear. Are stating that it is wrong to make money from blogging?

Every blog that i subscribe to, each of which i gain a lot of value from, have revenue streams. Either by AdSense, banner advertising, affiliate links or promoting their services.

You may be interested in Eastenders, but if you are truthful with yourself I believe the reason you left a comment on an Eastenders forum is not that you are a fan of Eastenders. You can lie to me if you like, after all, you don’t know me and probably don’t care about what I think. However, I would like to think that if you take a minute to consider it and are truthful to yourself you will understand what I am saying.

Was your motivation to compile a list of gifts for Stacey Slater your passion for Eastenders? Or was your motivation to attract people to your blog? And is your blog a way of expressing your views or a way of generating interest in GiftAssist?

Moreover, do you feel you were honest with the people reading the Eastenders post? You may not lie, but did you tell the truth? Did you represent your blog as part of a business or did you misrepresent your blog as something else?

To clarify, I don’t have a problem with people making money per se. I do personally feel a little bit dirty at the idea of a blog being used for commercial purposes, but that’s my own viewpoint. I find it unsavoury. As I said, though, that’s my opinion for myself and you can do what you like. It is the deceit of your approach that I have a major problem with. I don’t think you have openly lied, but strongly feel you have been deceitful by omission.

Would you write this blog if you were not connected to GiftAssist? And would you have posted to the Eastenders site? Is the content of the blog shaped to suit the purposes of making money, or is the money just an afterthought?

From what I can see the blog only exists as a way of making money, similar to an advertorial in a newspaper or magazine. The difference being, those clearly state what they are and do not masquerade as something else.

Two links out of five, one out of a hundred, it makes no difference.

Some other blogs I read do use banner advertising etc., but revenue streams are not their be-all and end-all. Furthermore, they do not pretend to be something they are not.

I will say in closing, however, that respect you for posting my comments. I am very surprised, though, as it is in stark contrast with your general approach.

The people i pick to write about is based on whatever is current. That way people reading the articles should have some knowledge of the subject and will be able to decide for themselves if they agree with my choices.

I don’t want to only choose people that i have a huge passion about, or already know a lot about, because i want to prove that with a little research i can find an excellent gift for someone that i might not even know.

The recent Stacey Slater story line interests me greatly. It’s a fantastic example of how TV can be elevated from just entertainment to something more socially responsible.

You are correct, as i stated in my last comment, i did post my comment on the Eastenders blog to get people to look at my site.

I do believe i was being honest with the users of the Eastenders blog. However, i think it’s safe to assume, that judging by your reaction, i haven’t been honest enough.

At this point, the GiftAssist blog is very new and my main goal is not to make money, but to build a following.

To have people subscribe, read my posts and understand the concept behind them.

If people, like yourself, come to my site and are turned off by the use of affiliate links then i believe i need to re-think.

    Thanks
    Rob

Rob, while my initial reaction was an honest one I have revised my opinion of you. I was thoroughly shocked that you actually posted my comments and you have engendered a great deal of respect by doing so. I do stand by most of the opinions I have stated, but now I appreciate that you are willing to listen and open to the idea of revising your approach.

I still don’t think you were honest with the Eastenders fans – honesty not being the absence of lies, but rather the presence of full disclosure. So no, in my opinion you certainly were not honest enough.

If you had posted to the Eastenders site but mentioned that you ran a website called GiftAssist, and had written a blog about Stacey Slater in connection with that, I would have no issue with that.

You say the goal of your blog is not to make money but to build a following. I still feel sure that if you follow that to its natural conclusion the ultimate aim is to make money in the future. Again, I don’t ask you to be honest with me, I ask you to be honest with yourself.

I still find that a bit distasteful, but have no major issue with it – my main issue was with you misleading people.

I also still believe you never would have written this blog if it wasn’t for GiftAssist, but only you know the real truth.

You are right, I do have better things to do, but it is amazing how something trivial can consume so much time when you really ought to be doing something else!

One final thing – no feedback is negative, only positive. At least you know your blog is being read. Not only that, but also that it has provoked a reaction. Even if my views are negative, they help to refine your idea, which can only be positive.

I wish you all the best – I have enjoyed our conversation.
